WORK EXPERIENCE

Associate Department Research Engineer

Northwestern University Medical School.

- March 2001 through present

Department engineer who is responsible for the design, fabrication, and implementation of mechanical, electrical, and computer (hardware and software) components of our laboratory facilities.    Project manager of linear sled system capable of accelerating human subjects at 5 g’s.  Also contributed my engineering knowledge to the department’s research focus of neural control of gait and posture.  Responsible for consulting and teaching professors, staff members, and students engineering concepts related to their research and studies.  Manage and maintain all laboratory facilities within the department.  Conduct cutting-edge research for our medical community.

Controls Development Researcher
School of Exercise and Sport Science,  Faculty of Health Sciences,  The University of Sydney
- July 2000 through December 2000

Part of a research team whose objective is to develop an actively controlled system that would allow paraplegic patients to walk.  The system uses feedback sensors to approximate the kinematics of the individual.  Then it delivers electrical pulses to stimulate the appropriate muscles.  In theory the precise sequence of signals will allow a paraplegic patient to walk using their own muscles.  The project is currently in its infancy.  My contributions will include obtaining useful information from the feedback sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes).  As the project progresses I will be involved in modeling the human-controller system and optimizing the controller.  Duties include data acquisition, signal processing, data reduction, software and hardware maintenance, model development, updating colleagues on my progress, controller design, controller optimization, and publishing my results.  |  COMPLETE PROJECT OVERVIEW  |

Teaching Assistant / College Engineer
Wesley College, University of Sydney
- February 2000 through present
Responsible for assisting students in disciplines of mathematics, physics, and mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering.  Informal lectures and private tutorials would be held for students seeking supplementary assistance.  Also, responsible for consulting college students and staff on engineering related issues.

Controls, Instrumentation, and System Dynamics R & D Engineer

Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at University of Illinois /
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Center
- January 1998 through January 2000.
In conjunction with of some of the top scholars in the field, research was conducted and directed in the area of active control of mobile air conditioning systems.  A groundbreaking sensor was invented and calibrated that will allow air conditioners to run more efficiently. Responsibilities included directing and conducting research, coordinating with cooperate sponsors to fulfill their needs, and publishing results to contribute to the academic body of knowledge.  |  COMPLETE PROJECT OVERVIEW  |

Software Development Engineer
Wolfram Research Inc.
- Summer 1997.
Initially, responsible for alpha testing of existing software used for structural mechanics analysis.  Also, responsible for recreating fragments of the existing software to correct bugs.  Then, creation of own software package was implemented. This software package was used to graphically model several engineering systems.  |  COMPLETE PROJECT OVERVIEW  |

Robot Dynamics Researcher
Wolfram Research / Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois
- Summer 1996.
Member of a research team overseen by a private industry/academic co-op.  Duties included the use of computer software as an adjunct to traditional research techniques on the topic of inverse kinematics of a robotic manipulator, programming the software to run simulations, coordinating with other team members to insure continuity of research, and presenting and publishing conclusions.  |  COMPLETE PROJECT OVERVIEW  |
